Alice Schleusner

A Century of Style, Strength, and Spirited Norwegian Pride~
If you’ve ever crossed paths with Alice Schleusner, chances are you noticed her iconic red shoes before anything else — a perfect symbol of the vibrant woman who wears them. Alice has turned 100 this year, and her life is as rich, colorful, and full of character as her impeccable style.
Born on a farm just six miles north of Rochester, Minnesota — back when Highway 52 was still called the St. Paul Road — Alice’s story began surrounded by rolling fields and simple joys. As an only child, she grew up with the quiet rhythm of country life and attended a charming one-room schoolhouse where one teacher guided students through all eight grades. Her fondest school memory? The beloved Christmas program each year, full of magic and community spirit.
Alice’s memories are treasures from a different time: loaves of bread for a nickel, dresses under two dollars, and a childhood wardrobe of just two — one for school and one for church. Simple days, yes, but filled with love, laughter, and learning.
Today, Alice calls Samaritan Bethany home, where she continues to inspire with her positivity and presence. Whether she’s playing a lively game of 500, shouting “Bingo!”, or attending church services with quiet grace, Alice brings energy and elegance to every room she enters.
Her secret to a long, beautiful life? She says it best:
“One day at a time. We do not know when our last day is, so enjoy every day.”
