*Please
be
patient with us as we build our
new home. Construction has started
at the Home on Eighth campus and
Arbor Terrace and parking is a
challenge at the moment.
*Please do not park in
The
Christian Bookstore parking lot.
We thank you for your patience!
Construction is now starting on
the new parking lot,
on 9th St.
As
we all know, our home is extremely
important to us as a place of
comfort, security, and where the
history of our life plays out
on a daily basis. During the past
four years Samaritan Bethany Board
Members and Staff have been working
on a strategic plan to develop
a household model for our residents.
We have contracted with Horty
Elving, a full-service multi-disciplinary
firm specializing in community
healthcare facility design,
to
assist us in our quest to create
home
for our residents.
The time has finally come to put
our strategic plan into action.

We are proud of our design and
the model of home which will bring
added comfort and security to
all who call Samaritan Bethany
home. The new living arrangements
will give residents the freedom
to decide what is best for them
in their day-to-day life, within
the boundaries of health restrictions.
They will have the opportunity
to build more intimate communities,
participate in activities on a
personalized level, and decide
for themselves when to rise in
the morning and have breakfast,
and when to have dinner and
retire
for the night.
We
are striving to diminish as many
restrictions as possible with
this new model of living for our
seniors without compromising their
health and safety. Our residents
are our extended family and we,
the staff of Samaritan Bethany
are privileged to work in their
home.
Our
project is based on the replacement
of our skilled nursing facility,
Samaritan Bethany Heights, to
be relocated in new construction
in our downtown campus location-
Home on Eighth. The six-story
addition, which includes parking,
at our existing downtown campus
and renovation of our Home on
Eighth will allow us to consolidate
all of our living options in one
convenient location. Through this
consolidation, residents will
have access to a wide variety
of care options that will allow
for a more personalized and seamless
full continuum of care.
The
relocation and renovation project
will allow us to accommodate 182
skilled nursing care residents
in 14 households. Current living
arrangements will change from
12 private and 54 semi-private
rooms to 108 private and 10 semi-private
rooms. Additionally the renovation
of our Home on Eighth will provide
accommodations for
54
residents in 54 private rooms;
a
complete reversal of our current
setting of 2 private and 30 semi-private
rooms.
Thus,
our new campus will have 162 private
and 10 semi-private rooms.
Developing
the household model in this newly
constructed addition as well as
in the renovated existing Home
on Eighth will provide our residents
additional common, personal, and
support space in a true home environment.
These spaces will give residents,
families, and friends the opportunity
to meet their day-to-day needs
via an expanded chapel, business
center with computer access, and
a cafe in each of the 14 households
there will be common living rooms,
dining rooms, and home-style activity
kitchens for beverages and snacks
as desired by the residents. Based
on the assessment of a resident's
personal abilities residents,
staff, and families can participate
in serving, cleanup, and activities
in the home-style activity kitchen
if they choose to do so. Activity/private
dining rooms are included in each
of the households to provide a
quiet space for families and friends
to gather, entertain, enjoy special
dinners, hold family meetings
and conferences, and relax with
their favorite hobbies and crafts.
Additionally,
through our remodeling, we will
expand our rehabilitation facility
and create 3 short-term rehab
households capable of caring for
41 individuals in 41 private rooms.
We will add memory care assisted
living, and catered living to
the continuum of care we currently
offer at our downtown campus by
the construction of a new Memory
Care Assisted Living Center.
This
center will be a part of our existing
Arbor Terrace independent catered
living housing and will be the
home for 16 residents.
Residential-appearing
finishes will be incorporated
into the design both inside and
out where the addition or remodeling
has taken place. The use of residential
windows and doors, siding and
materials will characterize the
outside of the building as a home
wherever possible. The interior
design will reflect this same
home character as well where common
areas are designed to be as near
normal house size. Looking to
the future, the project incorporates
an infrastructure of wiring and
jacks to provide facility-wide
access to the internet and internal
networking that will allow access
to the world
as
well as point-of-care digital
health care charting by our staff.
We
have cared for thousands of aging
adults in independent living,
assisted living, and skilled nursing
care. Our goal is to provide holistic
health services to our residents
in a secure, loving, safe, and
home-like environment. All of
us have a critical part to play
in upholding the dignity of each
individual we care for. We must
ensure that the quality of life
of our residents is not compromised
because of age and that they live
their life to its fullest potential
with dignity through the Christian
care we provide.
The
challenge to provide compassionate
care in an era of a national down-turned
economy and dwindling government
subsidy will be met because of
your concern and generosity. Financial
gifts will be essential to provide
a quality health care setting
at
an
affordable cost.
