Opened
in 1981, Samaritan Bethany Heights
is a one-story, 120-bed skilled
nursing facility certified in
both Medicare and Medicaid.
The
leadership at Samaritan Bethany
Heights is taking steps towards
"creating home". It
is an extending journey of moving
away from the traditional medical
model and moving toward a social
model of care. More and more each
neighborhood will develop its
own personal style. The residents
gather to discuss and make decisions
on culture change.
Competent,
caring and well-qualified staff
will continue to meet resident
medical needs in a home setting.
Hospice services are available.
Physical, occupational, speech
and music therapies are provided.
There is currently a Rhythm Band,
Vocal Choir, and Handbell Choir
that residents participate in
and regularly perform concerts.
An
individual care plan is developed
for each resident by a team which
involves the resident and his/her
family. Activities are designed
and adapted to match each resident's
level of ability and interest.
Samaritan Bethany provides free
wheelchair accessible transportation
to medical appointments for residents
and those who accompany them.
One
of the neighborhoods is designated
for the care of residents whose
needs are short-term. It is recognized
that the needs of those residents
may be quite different than the
needs of the long-term population.
Most
rooms at the facility are designed
for two residents, though there
are twelve private rooms. Each
room has a private bathroom. There
are numerous areas throughout
the building where private or
larger group visits can be accommodated.
Personal hair care is offered
at the care center. There are
also many pets that share the
facility with the residents.
Spiritual
needs are met by the staff Chaplain
who conducts weekly services and
routinely visits with residents
at the facility.
