Opened
in 1975, Samaritan Bethany Home
on Eighth is a 62-bed skilled
nursing facility certified for
Medicare and Medicaid.

The
leadership at the Home on Eighth
is taking steps towards "creating
home". It is an extending
journey of moving away from the
traditional medical model and
moving toward a social model of
care. More and more each neighborhood
will develop its own personal
style. The residents gather to
discuss and make decisions on
culture change.
Competent,
caring and well-qualified staff
will continue to meet resident
medical needs in a home setting.
Physical, occupational, and speech
therapies are provided. Hospice
services are available.
An
individual care plan is developed
for each resident by a team which
involves the resident and his/her
family. Activities are designed
and adapted to match each resident's
level of ability and interest.
Samaritan Bethany provides free
wheelchair accessible transportation
to medical appointments for residents
and those who accompany them.
Personal hair care is offered
at the care center as well.
One
of the neighborhoods is designated
for the care of residents whose
needs are short-term. It is recognized
that the needs of those residents
may be quite different than the
needs of the long-term population.
Most
rooms at the facility are designed
for two residents, though there
are two private rooms. Each room
has a private bathroom. There
are numerous areas throughout
the building where private or
larger group visits can be accommodated.
Spiritual
needs are met by the staff Chaplain
who conducts weekly services and
routinely visits with residents
at the facility.
Shopping
is available at the Auxiliary
Gift Shop for residents, family
members, and staff.
